A shocking development has unfolded in the US justice system, with a wave of resignations rocking the civil rights division. The catalyst? A controversial decision not to investigate the fatal shooting of an unarmed US citizen by a federal immigration agent in Minneapolis.
The resignations of at least four leaders from the division's criminal investigations section have sent shockwaves through the legal community. According to reports, these attorneys are protesting the decision made by Harmeet Dhillon, an assistant attorney general aligned with the Trump administration, to not investigate the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent.
But here's where it gets controversial: while the DoJ has stepped back, the FBI has taken over the investigation, focusing on Good's alleged connections to activist groups. This shift in control has raised eyebrows, especially considering the FBI's decision to freeze out local officials.
And this is the part most people miss: the Trump administration, including the president himself, has been quick to label Good as a "domestic terrorist" or "paid agitator" without providing any evidence. The FBI's investigation into Good's alleged activist connections seems to align with the White House's narrative, blaming the victim and absolving the ICE agent.
