Cheryl Tweedy Stalker Back in Prison: Daniel Bannister's Disturbing Pattern of Harassment (2026)

Imagine the fear of constantly looking over your shoulder, knowing someone is obsessed with you and won't leave you alone. This is the reality Cheryl Tweedy, the beloved Girls Aloud singer, has been facing. Her stalker, Daniel Bannister, a convicted killer, has been imprisoned for the third time in just a year for violating his license conditions and harassing her.

Bannister, 51 years old, has repeatedly shown up at Tweedy's home in the Chalfonts area of Buckinghamshire. His unwanted visits occurred multiple times between January 2024 and December 2024. He was initially sentenced to 16 weeks in prison and given a restraining order by Wycombe Magistrates' Court in March 2025. However, the situation escalated when Bannister returned to Tweedy's home after his release, leading to a 12-month prison sentence in September.

Now, he's back in custody due to breaching his license terms, as confirmed by the HM Prison and Probation Service. The spokesperson emphasized their commitment to re-imprisoning offenders who break the rules. The specific details of Bannister's license conditions remain undisclosed.

Bannister is expected to serve the remainder of his 12-month sentence.

Following Bannister's repeated intrusions, Tweedy was forced to hire personal security, as the situation had a profound impact on her and her child.

In a victim impact statement, she expressed her heightened anxiety, stating that each time he returned, her worry about his intentions intensified.

But here's where it gets controversial...

It's important to remember that Bannister has a violent past. He was previously jailed for killing 48-year-old Rajendra Patel at a south London YMCA homeless shelter in 2012. He admitted to manslaughter and received a two-and-a-half-year sentence.

His stalking of Tweedy began in January 2024, when he showed up at her home, announcing his presence. He returned in July, requesting a glass of wine. In December 2024, just three weeks after the funeral of her former partner, Liam Payne, he appeared at her home again. This led to the 16-week sentence in March 2025. Bannister's actions culminated in a 12-month sentence in September of the same year after he admitted to breaching the restraining order at Reading Magistrates' Court in June 2025. A recall warrant was issued for Bannister on January 13, 2026.

And this is the part most people miss... This case raises critical questions about the effectiveness of restraining orders and the measures in place to protect victims of stalking.

What do you think? Are the current legal measures enough to protect victims like Cheryl Tweedy, or should there be stricter penalties for stalkers? Share your thoughts in the comments.
